Creating a Safe and Welcoming Church for Everyone

Safeguarding is about creating an environment where children, young people and adults can worship, participate and grow in their faith with confidence and without fear of harm, abuse or neglect.

We believe safeguarding is not simply a policy or a set of procedures — it is an important part of our Christian responsibility to care for one another, protect those who may be vulnerable, and ensure that our church remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Our Commitment

St. John’s Church Muscat is committed to maintaining appropriate safeguarding practices across all areas of church life.

Our Church Council members and Youth Leaders have been trained and certified through the Church of England safeguarding programme, equipping them with the knowledge and understanding needed to recognise safeguarding concerns, respond appropriately and help maintain a safe church environment.

We regularly promote awareness of safeguarding responsibilities among those involved in ministry, leadership and activities involving children, young people and vulnerable adults.

They are available to provide guidance, receive concerns and help ensure that safeguarding matters are handled appropriately and sensitively.

Why Safeguarding Matters

Every person who comes through the doors of St. John’s should feel safe, respected, valued and heard.

Safeguarding helps us:

• Protect children, young people and vulnerable adults from harm.

• Recognise and respond appropriately to concerns.

• Ensure that those serving in positions of responsibility understand their safeguarding duties.

• Promote a culture where people feel safe to speak up.

• Maintain appropriate boundaries within our church community.

• Demonstrate our Christian commitment to care, dignity and respect.

Safeguarding is Everyone’s Responsibility

Safeguarding is not the responsibility of a few individuals alone. Everyone in our church community has a part to play.

By remaining aware, listening carefully and speaking up when something does not seem right, we can work together to ensure that St. John’s continues to be a safe, caring and welcoming church for all.
